The Pride Center at Equality Park in Wilton Manors commissioned ArtServe to lead the call to artist for the design of a 2,900-square-foot public art installation for The Residences at Equality Park, South Florida’s first affordable housing community for LGBTQ+ seniors. The jury panel selected Fort Lauderdale native and talented artist Steven Teller to create the design. Teller’s application and submission ranked highest among more than 90 artists who competed for selection by the ArtServe-coordinated jury. Criteria included a statement of artistic vision, a demonstration of technical skill, creativity and relevance of design, and overall impression of the artist and their work.

“We want artists to feel emboldened by the bustling, life-enhancing, pro-health, diverse work of the nine organizations headquartered on the Equality Park campus,” ArtServe Executive Director Jason Hughes explained. “We want artists to use this inspiration to fuel their creativity toward a powerful, transformative, meaningful, bold design.” The installation will cover 1,535 square feet of the exterior of The Residences at Equality Park and 1,245 square feet of The Pride Center’s existing Schubert Building and will be highly visible from the highly traveled Dixie Highway.

This joint initiative between ArtServe and The Pride Center at Equality Park in Wilton Manors is currently in process with the mural slated for release in winter of 2020.
