In 2016 a group of Washington State families with transgender kids joined the fight against a wave of discriminatory anti-transgender legislation that swept the nation and their home state. With the help of a coalition of civil rights activists and like-minded lawmakers, these families fought tooth and nail to protect their children’s lives and futures in this present-day civil rights story.

ABOUT DIRECTOR VLADA KNOWLTON

Director: Seattle-based director Vlada Knowlton made her feature-length documentary debut with HAVING IT ALL (2015), exploring the pressure women face to balance careers, children, and marriage. The film was the anchor program of KCTS’s “Women Who Inspire” series in August 2015 and also aired on Oregon Public Broadcasting. Her current documentary, THE MOST DANGEROUS YEAR, was awarded the Professional Grant from Women in Film Seattle and an Open 4Culture Grant. Knowlton holds a doctorate in Cognitive Science from Brown University, and worked at Microsoft prior to her filmmaking career.
