Open Canvas Project

Imagine transforming an abandoned city building into an exciting art canvas that serves as a public gateway to downtown Fort Lauderdale, FAT Village, and MASS District. Volunteers and community supporters coming together to deconstruct, transform, reimagine. Join us to be a part of the Open Canvas Project that will culminate on October 28, when the former “One Stop Shop” building (301 N. Andrews Avenue) is deconstructed and reimagined as a continuous and collaborative urban art piece during a fair-style, multi-media art event.

Local mural artists are encouraged to review and apply to the Call to Artists for this electrifying and important project! There is no entry fee; submissions close October 9.

Save the date:

Community members, artists, and all interested parties are invited to give their input regarding the look, feel, impact, and purpose of the space at two Visioning Charettes open to the public:

August 22: Community Input Visioning Charette 1 | 6-8pm | ArtServe

October 7: Community Input Visioning Charette 2 | 10am – 12 noon | ArtServe

October 9: Call to Artists for muralists closes (extended due to Irma!)

The Project will culminate in a day of art and community celebration:

October 28: Open Canvas Day | 11am – 6pm
Live mural art, music, family, food and friends come together to deconstruct/reimagine the building that is a bridge between the surrounding neighborhoods. Watch the live murals go up, eat, dance and mingle before heading to the FAT Village & MASS District Art Walks.
