Artist Statement

If my art work makes you feel any emotion at first sight, and if it somehow remains within your daily life, I will be grateful. My goal is to be an active channel of life in all its manifestations, from macro to micro scales. “As above, so below. As below, so above”. My challenge is to translate the Universe into art, and share it with you.

Artist Bio

I was born in Havana, Cuba, where I graduated as an Architect with a Major in Urban Planning. I moved to Spain in 1995, and later, in 2000, to USA. I have worked as an Architect as well as teaching several subjects related to Design and Urban Planning in Cuba, Spain, Brasil and USA. In February of 2016 I retired from the City of Miami Planning Department, and now I am happily dedicated to art.

Since I was a child I loved to draw. My childhood friends remember me always drawing. Later at the School of Architecture I developed my hand drafting skills, basically on architectural themes. Around 1996, in Spain, I started drawing black & white ink art pieces. Around 2013, already in Miami, I started exploring color in my paintings.

I am a member of Florida Watercolor Society, Palm Beach Watercolor Society, Gold Coast Watercolor Society, Artists United, Art Serve, as well as a Signature Member of Miami Watercolor Society.

In my paintings I try to follow a thoughtful path, using symbols, creating stories to be interpreted by the observer. I love to hear people’s vision of my creations. Spiritual themes are my favorite. Native American culture has inspired several of my pieces. But I paint diverse themes: nature, portraits, architecture elements, anything that calls my attention at this particular moment. Usually I have at least two or three pieces in progress.

My art pieces have been shown in numerous shows and public places, and they have received several awards, as shown below.
